This year, travel can’t be one of our goals, well unless you want to travel locally (which is of course magnificent in Western Australia). Although 2020 wasn’t the best for the majority, it was a year that taught us a lot of lessons. Here are 13 things to do this year to make it your best year.
- Re-evaluate your work life. A survey in the US states that 70% of employees are unhappy in their jobs. That is a lot of time being unhappy. Even through the pandemic, there have been radical transformations for people. It’s possible for everybody.
- Cook amazing meals. It is far too easy to buy takeaway, however, the satisfaction of creating something from scratch helps us et the fulfilment we need to keep doing more of it.
- Challenge yourself to halve your alcohol intake. Alcohol is ultimately poison for your body, it slows down your metabolism and takes you further away from your goals, money and health included.
- Plan something you haven’t done, each month of the year. If you need inspiration use this “100 Bucket List Ideas for Things to do Before You Die” Time is now, not when you’re 60.
- Walk-in nature for just 10 mins a day. Breathing in the fresh air in nature calms the body and relaxes the mind, spending just 10 mins a day in nature will give you clarity.
- Meditate for just 10 breaths a day. Far too often during the day, our breathing isn’t right. Taking just 10 deep breaths will give your body the oxygen it needs to make better decisions.
- Reduce screen time by just 10 mins a day. Technology can take over our lives, replacing screen time with reading a book can have a profound impact on our sleep.
- Solve the Rubik’s cube. If you’ve always you can’t solve the Rubik’s cube, change it by taking a Rubik’s cube class on youtube.
- Remove 100 things out of your home. Back when we could holiday, we made Airbnb out of our home when we were away. The satisfaction of coming back to a perfectly reset and clean home was amazing. We realised that there were so many things in the home that we hadn’t seen in years!
- Take a masterclass for something you could never have imagined yourself doing. The world has never been better for learning from the best. You can learn unbelievable things from a masterclass, from having better conversations to learning how to sleep better, to chess and even learning how to have better sex. Google ‘masterclass’
- Smile at at least one stranger a day. With our heads buried in phones during our public outings, we rarely make eye contact with strangers. Smile at strangers to find that human connection again.
- Start a conversation in a line. Like the last more likely than not, you’ll end up using your phone in a line. Why not do something out of the ordinary and start a conversation – who knows, you might make a friend.
- Focus on now not the past or the future. Just now. I agree a lot of our decisions are based on the past, but if we just appreciate what we have now and live in the moment, we can curb our stress and anxiety.
Create your life, not just live it. By doing things you’d normally not do will help create a better life for yourself.
